The Diocesan Trauma Recovery Program offers new groups in Spanish
Trauma, as we talk about it in the Program, is an event or series of events combined with an individual’s vulnerability that creates an obstacle to normal human development. It injures the mind, body and spirit. Traumatic events include emotional, physical or sexual abuse, or sever neglect. Vulnerability refers to factors that increase the likelihood of lasting injury from the trauma, factors such as poverty, the victim’s temperament, or lack of support from others. The fact that the victim is a child constitutes vulnerability.
The Trauma Recovery Program explains why the effects of childhood trauma go so deep and last so long. It teaches specific skills for living more effectively in the present. This is done without rehashing the hurtful events of the past. The work is done in a small group setting, situated in a private location and facilitated by mental health professionals. There is no cost to participants.
Over 400 people have participated in The Program in English. They consistently report that the experience has given them hope for the future and specific skills for their healing process. They repeatedly request that the diocese continue to offer The Program for other survivors.
The Diocese continues this Program in Spanish. If you know of someone who can benefit from the Program in Spanish, please
