The Sacrament of Confirmation normally occurs within the context of the Eucharistic Liturgy which is the culmination of the candidate’s preparation.
The diocesan Confirmation Guidelines can be found here. The Parish Curriculum Guides and Tests can be found here.
Confirmation is part of the ritual of initiation which brings persons to new life in Christ and full membership in the Christian community. All Confirmations are held at St. Augustine Cathedral.
The links below contain important information that is intended to help parish personnel in their preparation of the liturgy of Confirmation.
An understanding of this information will enable parishes to be more confident about the mechanics of the ceremony and allow them to use their energies for the celebration of a joyful, uplifting liturgy for the candidates and the gathered assembly.
There are three opportunities for the Sacrament of Confirmation for adults who are already Catholic (baptized in the Catholic Church) but for some reason have never been confirmed and are now requesting the sacrament. They can:
a) be confirmed by Bishop Lohse along with the youth of the parish at your parish’s confirmation,
b) be confirmed by the pastor or another priest on Pentecost, provided that priest has received the faculty from Bishop Lohse for doing so, or
c) be confirmed by Bishop Lohse at the Cathedral during the special Confirmation Mass intended for adults from across the diocese.
The adult Confirmation Mass for 2025 will be held on October 12 at 2 p.m.
